Born in a musical family - his mother is a classical pianist, his father an amateur jazzman -, but it is another family member, and a celebrity, saxophonist Jacques Pelzer who introduces him to jazz and will have a strong influence on his career. Together they will found the band OPEN SKY UNIT.
In the mid-seventies, he attends courses at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. On return to Belgium he creates, with Henri Pousseur, the Jazz Seminar at the Liège Conservatory. During the same period, he brings over to Europe some US musicians and forms the groups Solstice first, then Mauve Traffic (with Bill Frisell, Greg Badolato, Kermit Driscoll, Michel Herr, Vinnie Johnson, with whom he worked in Europe and released the album „Oh Boy“ (MD). He played with some legendary names like Chet Baker (he recorded with him), Mike Stern, George Coleman, Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, Jon Eardley, Joe Newman, Richie Beirach etc.
Scholly, Kremer and Ramond experiment in a very individual way with the musical material from ‘The American Songbook’. Affiliated to the tradition and sound of the classical guitar trio setting they search for new musical ground and enjoy to venture on their expeditions with relative small technical equipment.
Norbert Scholly (guitar) born 1964 in Bardenberg, Germany. With 12 years he took his first guitar into his hands. Later he played in different musical projects like acoustic guitar duos etc. Meanwhile he looks back on a considerate list of musicians he worked with: Larry Corryell, Bireli Lagrene, Peter Erskine, Benny Golson, WDRBig Band. Furthermore he did Radio- and TV productions. 1985 he won the price as best soloist on the EUROPEAN JAZZ COMPETITION. CD-Recordings with Danny Gottlieb, Olivier Peters, Ramesh Shotham round up his curriculum. Sydney Christian Ramond (bass) studied at the “Musikhochschule Köln”/ Germany and the „Academy of Fine Arts“ in Banff / Kanada. worked with Joe Pass, Albert Mangel dorff, Tomasz Stanko, Phillip Catherine, John Eardly, Marty Cook, Petras Vysniauskas, Allan Praskin, Bobby Shew, Doug Rainey, John Schroder, Benny Bailey. Is touring worldwide with D.R.A
Stefan Kremer (drums) studied drums in Paris with Dante Agostini, had lessons with the legendary British drummer Tony Oxley and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. At the age of 19 already toured with the Chet Baker Quintet. Since then he collaborated with numerous jazz artists like Kenny Wheeler, Albert Mangelsdorf, John Thomas, Babs Conzales, John Eardly, Dave Liebman, and many more...
